Arrangement of experiment: live from the travelling barn
Everyone is familiar with typically Austrian folk music programmes. We decide to "sound out" the terrific Tirol with a polished yodelling medley. We transmit our singing live to the surrounding villages and valleys via special frequencies attuned to male ears.
 
Results for the test group "men": from stalwart farmer to lovable Neanderthal man in just three notes
In one word: overwhelming. Our yodelling sounds seem to overload the auditory cortex in male test subjects. The men forget everything around them including their female partners and they set off, as if remote controlled, in order to penetrate to the source of the signal. Once there, they succumb entirely to the testosterone surge and slip into a seemingly primitive, but hearty form of swaying, singing along and clapping.
 
Results for the test group "women": not amused
Understandably, the ladies unwittingly involved in the experiment react with little enthusiasm for our yodelling medley. Bereft of their menfolk, they arm themselves and form up in order together to silence the competition. We have to fall back on our emergency teleportation appliance in order to beam ourselves to safety. From a nearby height we are then able to observe how our male fans are given a lesson that is not a pretty sight. We almost suffer pangs of conscience. Almost, but not quite. Science demands its sacrifices.
 
Findings: yodelling speaks right to the heart...
...and no one can resist it, even if it might perhaps be healthier to. That is the diagnosis reached by the charming presenter of the folk music programme mentioned. And we have to agree. Yodelling is a powerful force, capable of eliminating all sense of reason in the auditorium so that nothing lies in the way of unfiltered emotion - under certain circumstances a dangerous, but tempting matter, something that the Tirol would not wish to do without.
